Gary Woodland Wins after 5-Year Winless Streak

Gary Woodland Wins after 5-Year Winless Streak

Gary Woodland waited five long years to break his losing streak. He finally got his first win since 2013, and he did it in a dramatic fashion. The match against Chez Reavie went down to the last putt of the Waste Management Open.

It was an emotional win for Woodland. After he made his last shot, he pointed to the sky as a tribute to his daughter who died last year. His wife and son celebrated with him on the 18th hole. After the death of one of his unborn twins in March of 2017, he took a four-month break from competition.

Getting Better After the Family Tragedy

Brennan Little, Woodland’s caddie, said that his demeanor on the greens is getting better. Last year, Woodland didn’t know his schedule, missed several events, and stayed home most of the time. Now that his wife and son are out of danger, his attitude has improved. This led to his good showing in the Sony Open and the Farmers Insurance Open, leading to his victory at the Waste Management Open.

Woodland said that he was in the zone during the Waste Management Open. He didn’t even realize that he made nine birdies. His next tournament will be the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. He overcame injuries, frustrations, and loss of a loved one to get his career back on track.

Exciting Playoff with Chez Reavie

Chez Reavie got birdies on the last two holes to tie the score and force a playoff. The birdie on the 18th was one of the most exciting moments of the tour this year. However, he came short for the par putt on the first playoff hole to get a bogey. Woodland won with an easy tap-in. It was his first Tour victory since 2013. It was the third win of his PGA Tour career.
