It has been a glamorous week for not only Charlie Fay but also Bates Lacrosse team. This is after the team beat the top team Tufts and managed to climb the ladder to the US inter-collegiate Lacrosse Association’s national division iii. Due to Charlie Fay’s effort of scoring five goals and aiding his team to No.14 of the division iii, he was named NESCAC player of the week. This is actually a big leap for the sophomore midfielder with a bright future.
The Bobcats enjoyed their best week in history with the triumph over the Tufts at their home recording a magnificent score of 12-8 on Tuesday night and finally beating Middleburg 14-9 on Saturday at home. This win over the Tufts by Bates sure ended their 24 game winning streaks and 28 unbeaten home winnings. This was all made possible by Fay’s five goals that sealed Bates fate over Tufts. Bates went ahead in the score board over the Tufts in the first half with a 5-3 lead with Fay supplying 4 of the 5 goals.
Fay, a 6-foot-4 player has recorded incredible results on his score sheet so far this year. He managed to score 23 goals in only six games all against NESCAC opponents. These goals have made him top the NESCAC in goals per game (3.83) and rank 3rd in points per game (4.50). Though he missed the first six games of the year due to injury, Fay has outperformed many players and really deserves the award.
Bates starts the week in the USILA’s national divisin iii poll. This is their first time since 2006. Let’s wait and see how they will perform in the division. The Bobcats will play Colby on April 22nd in their last regular game of the season.
